Our close relationship with the Dental Community

Selfie is a Clear Aligner company and the creator of our own provisionally proprietary Impression Kit. Through our advanced technology, our aim is to enable the dental community to reach a wider base of customers who may not necessarily feel safe leaving their homes to make an in-person clinic visit during Covid-times, or simply have no easy access to an orthodontist in their community. We can now facilitate the dental community to serve a wider population and bridge the supply gap through our impression kit, and also making sure the necessary checks and balances are made before customers are prescribed with our Selfie-branded clear aligner.

Our Impression Kit service model requires the close involvement of local, qualified dentists – many of whom have their own dental clinic(s) and have years of experience prescribing clear aligners to customers in Thailand – who conduct evaluation of suitability for clear aligner therapy online.

Selfie is committed to advance the Dental Industry in Thailand and create an inclusive ecosystem for dental professionals, enabled by our cutting-edge technology to serve the people of Thailand.

Covid-19 and the delivery of dental services

As the Covid-19 situation evolved in Thailand since early 2020, we at Selfie have worked closely with our clinic partners, dentists, orthodontists, patients and customers on the ground to discover how Selfie can help improve the delivery of dental services for all.

The consistent feedback we’ve received from patients and customers was that they were increasingly reluctant to leave their homes for anything other than essential activities. This included avoiding visits to dental clinics where possible, which were seen as high-risk locations, and at times, optional.

From the perspective of dentists and clinics, it was increasingly difficult to meet the demand for patient visits, particularly with the increased amount of time required between appointments and enhanced cleaning procedures implemented because of Covid-19. They wanted to be able to deliver their services with less pressure on their limited clinical time. The situation flips 180 degrees during city/nation-wide lockdowns and they are faced with lacklustre to almost no appointment bookings – forcing many to shut the clinic entirely to cut costs. This also means dentists and clinics were unable to meet the demand from customers who are also forced to stay home. A double-edged sword that has plagued the dental community for too long.

Our home dental kit to get started

Using these feedback, Selfie went to the drawing board to come up with a solution that would overcome these problems. Our goal was to facilitate the dental consultation for clear aligners, and allow the entire process to be carried out without the patient and dentist having to meet in-person, while still achieving the same level of safety and accountability. We then spent over a year developing, testing, improving and getting FDA regulatory approvals to ensure the solution was reliable, accurate, and above all, safe for customers.

The result, our revolutionary, proprietary Selfie Impression Kit. This kit allows Selfie to send accurate 3D digital models of a patient’s teeth, together with medical history, extraoral and intraoral photographs and other diagnostic information to the dentist to assess the customer’s suitability for clear aligner treatment. This is done without the customer leaving the safety of their own home and taking up the dentist’s valuable chair time. Only those customers who cannot be treated remotely are then advised to attend one of our partner clinics for further evaluation and treatment.

We are continuing to learn and improve every day, and we will continue to work closely with all of our partner dentists to ensure our Impression Kit is meeting their needs, as well as the needs of our customers during this challenging pandemic.
